Finding the Best Honeymoon Package

Article by Holiday Horizon

After the expense of a wedding, many couples are keen to find the best honeymoon package they can; both in terms of `once in a lifetime` experience and also value for money. With the cost of the average wedding now reaching into the `many thousands` mark and in a difficult economic climate, finding good deals has never been more important.

A honeymoon often accounts for around 20% of the overall wedding cost – yet many couples forget to save for it and find they have less money to spend on their holiday to remember. At the other end of the scale, those who have found themselves short can end up borrowing to finance their honeymoon, which isn`t a great way to start married life; taking on debt which may result in an extended and expensive period of repayments, long after the holiday memories have faded.

The good news however is that planning goes a long way. There are a great deal of deals! It just means seeking them out, doing some research and spending time picking the right holiday for you and your partner. The internet is a great place to start doing your research, although word of mouth and recommendations can also bring up some surprising leads. Don`t overly rely on travel recommendation and review websites, as some have proven themselves to be less than reliable – go further in your research to find out the facts and speak to other couples who have had successful and enjoyable honeymoons.

Cruise packages are popular with couples and can actually be quite good value. All inclusive packages mean that no hidden extras will spoil the holiday and it offers a great chance to relax and take part in activities both on deck and during on shore excursions. The food is often excellent and drinks will be included, making it a luxurious and low stress option. Good prices are usually available to those who book in advance and take advantage of other little extras like cash-back booking sites, cash-back credit cards and special booking offers.

Often the cost of travel is the most expensive part of a honeymoon to distant shores, so again, seeking out the best flight costs using an online flight screenscraper is a good way to ensure the best prices. Look for offers, then book into an all inclusive resort on a gorgeous beach somewhere quiet! Popular destinations include Thailand, India, The Bahamas and Hawaii. Lovely destinations abound too closer to home in Greece and the Mediterranean. City breaks such as New York appeal to others, while road trips, `staycations` and even wild camping work for the more adventurous!

Remember to factor in money if you are likely to leave the comfort of your luxury villa and hotel complex- whether that`s the cost of a rainforest excursion in Costa Rica, a spa visit in France or car hire Marrakech to see the gorgeous souks – budgeting in advance will make your honeymoon as wonderful and relaxing an experience as you hoped it would be. Remember too, costs such as travel insurance, vaccinations and airport transfers – no one wants to be arguing over money on their holiday – let alone their honeymoon!

Finding the Right Location for your Honeymoon

Article by HolidayHorizon

Choosing the right honeymoon spot for you and your loved one should be given a great deal of thought, as the memories of this trip will stay with you for the rest of your life. There are hundreds upon hundreds of places to choose from, but ultimately, when you arrive, one of the most important things will be the hotel, its amenities and the local sights of the area.

When it comes to the location, everyone has different ideas of what would constitute the perfect honeymoon spot; for some, a white sandy beach would be heavenly, whilst for others, laying on a beach all day may not be exciting enough. These folks may prefer a honeymoon in a new city, filled with lots of things and see. A lot of honeymoon couples decide to go for a secluded and peaceful break in a luxury resort; this may be on an island or closer to home. If you are on a tight budget, but still want the fun of the sun, sea and sand, then pick a hotel which is close to the beach but not right next to it, as this hotel is likely to be far cheaper, but will still be close enough for the happy couple to enjoy some much needed rest and relaxation by the water.

The other thing to consider is the type of hotel the couple wishes to stay at; if they are choosing a city break, then they may not have as many options, as these hotels tend to cater to everyone (that is, families, tour groups, etc.) If they are looking for total peace and quiet, then there are smaller boutique hotels and some luxury resorts which specifically cater to couples. In these places, couples will get the star treatment and can completely unwind in beautiful surroundings.

It is also important to bear in mind what facilities the hotel has and whether the package one chooses is all inclusive or whether the use of some facilities will come with an additional cost. The price of the hotel will generally increase along with the amount of facilities available, so do bear this in mind when booking, if money is a concern. There are a number of facilities to look out for, depending on the tastes of the couple in question. Things such as a pool and spa facilities are popular with couples, as are a hotel nightclub, live evening entertainment, a golf course, casino and concierge services. There needs to be a balance between the right facilities and the costs involved. Do make sure to look around for special offers and honeymoon discounts, which hotels and other business make available sometimes throughout the year. Things such as First Choice discount vouchers can often save couples a bundle when they are off on their honeymoon.

How to Prepare for Your Caribbean Honeymoon

Article by Justin Burch

While your honeymoon will be an exciting experience, preparing for your trip can often bring as much stress as planning the wedding. The potential destination is often the first thing couples consider and millions of newlyweds have found the perfect combination of luxury, relaxation, activities and impeccable weather in the Caribbean. If you are in search of an exotic honeymoon destination like so many couples are, look no further than the accessible and affordable Caribbean. As you begin making preparations for your Caribbean honeymoon, follow the timeline presented here as you organize for your once-in-a-lifetime voyage.

At Least Six Months Before Your Caribbean Honeymoon

* Establish the budget for your Caribbean vacation. * Begin researching Caribbean destinations by talking to family and friends, searching the internet, reading travel literature or consulting a travel agent. * After deciding on your destination, start booking your flight and reserving accommodations. * If you are also planning a destination wedding in the Caribbean, check the marriage requirements of your destination. In the earlier stages of planning, you can also begin necessary paperwork or contact a wedding planner at your Caribbean resort. * If necessary, prepare all of the rentals for your honeymoon. This may include a car, off-road equipment, water sports toys or scuba and snorkeling gear.

Three Months Before Your Caribbean Honeymoon

* Secure your visas or passports, if necessary for travel to your Caribbean destination. * If you are visiting the Caribbean during peak travel season (November-April), begin making reservations for popular restaurants, shows and recreation tours. * If you anticipate needing several reservations or additional assistance for your Caribbean honeymoon, contact the concierge at your resort and explain your desired itinerary. Don’t forget to tip your concierge when you arrive. * Consider pursuing a scuba certification at home and potentially practicing the sport before visiting the Caribbean. By gaining some experience, you will be able to participate in more challenging, which often means more captivating, dives.

One Month before Your Caribbean Honeymoon

* Develop a packing list, accounting for all the unique items you might need in the Caribbean. * If you are planning a bridal shower, fill your want list with items you can use for your Caribbean honeymoon. * Create a shopping list for the items you don’t already have and don’t anticipate receiving as gifts. * Confirm that all of your reservations are correct by checking with your resort, airline and any tour operators or rental companies.

One Week before Your Caribbean Honeymoon

* Print your airline tickets or pick them up from your travel agent. Keep the tickets and your travel information in a safe, but easily accessible location until travel day. * If you plan on using travelers’ checks in the Caribbean, purchase some through your bank. You may also want to consider exchanging a small amount of cash for your destination’s currency to help cover immediate expenses upon arrival. * Rather than packing your bulky guidebooks, copy the pages you need and organize a folder to match your itinerary. * If you have prescriptions, make sure you have enough for your honeymoon. * Make copies of your passports, credit cards and insurance information. In the event that your wallet or purse is lost, the copies saved in your luggage or with a friend or relative could alleviate plenty of headaches.

Three Days before Your Caribbean Honeymoon

* Begin preparing your bags and shop for the items on your list. * Make arrangements for airport transportation, both at home and at your honeymoon destination. * Talk to your concierge about any needs you might have for your hotel room, such as champagne or other romantic touches. * Check the weather forecast for your Caribbean destination and pack your bags accordingly.

One Day before Your Caribbean Honeymoon

* Check for updated information regarding your flight. * Label your bags and ensure that you have everything you need. * Lastly, and most importantly, relax and prepare yourself for the trip of a lifetime.

Honeymoon Holidays For Summer Brides

Article by Claire Bryant

Holding your wedding ceremony in the summer months of June, July and August may mean that you’re more likely to receive sunny weather on your big day, but it can limit you when choosing your luxury honeymoon holiday, as the school holidays mean costlier airfares, crowded beaches and the dreaded hurricane season in the Caribbean. We’ve picked our top three honeymoon holiday destinations along with the best month of the year to visit them in.

June Brides

The tropical island of Mauritius is the perfect honeymoon holiday destination for June brides. The British Summer Season sees the exotic island at its absolute best with the temperature around a moderate 25 degrees Celsius. During this month the north of the island is the most temperate and the five star resort of The Oberoi is one of the perfect luxury destinations for honeymoons. The hotel is located amongst 20 acres of sub-tropical gardens and has a 600 meter ocean-front. Newly-weds can eat delectable Creole food amongst the stars in the resort’s amazing restaurant, whilst listening to the strange evening song of the frogs.

After all the stresses and strains of organizing your wedding you’re going to need plenty of time away to pamper yourself and this is where the hotel’s luxurious spa comes in handy with it’s extensive range of holistic treatments from aromatherapy to aruyvedic massages. If you can bring yourselves to leave this incredible resort then the destination of Mauritius offers plenty for newly-weds to do on their honeymoon holidays, whether it’s a walking trip hand in hand on the bottom of the Indian Ocean or an excursion to a local rum distillery.

July Brides

July Brides should consider taking their luxury honeymoons in the cosmopolitan city of Hong Kong. It may not be the typical honeymoon holiday destination with its lack of palm-fringed beaches, and a bustling city atmosphere, but during July the city is arguably its most beautiful and it can be twinned with other Far East beach resorts for a fantastic multi-center honeymoon.

Hong Kong has more than its fair share of luxury hotels which are just perfect for relaxing honeymoon holidays. Of all these hotels, The Excelsior is one of the most romantic, situated on the waterfront of Hong Kong harbour and in the heart of the shopping district. The Excelsior is located close to all the major tourist attractions and Hong Kong’s highlights include visiting the Giant Buddha at Lantau Island and a tram ride on the world’s steepest tram railway at Victoria Peak.

The Excelsior offers Michelin awarded dining, a world class spa and eight private treatment rooms making it the perfect destination for newlyweds to unwind on their honeymoon holidays.

August Brides

August Brides may be marrying in the peak of the summer season, but the onset of the school holidays makes finding a dream honeymoon holiday destination much harder. However, August is the perfect time to visit the romantic island of Bali, a dream island which is perfect year round.

The Melia Bali Villas and Spa Resort are a great value luxury honeymoon destination and provide the perfect base to get away from everything and simply relax after all the stresses and strains of organizing a wedding.

Beautiful lotus ponds stand beside carved stone gods and the hotel offers a whole range of different facilities from four stunning bars to a beautifully sophisticated restaurant offering a range of local cuisine.

Bali is the quintessential tropical island and its laid back atmosphere suits everyone from backpackers seeking the perfect place to unwind after their travels to the wealthy in search of luxurious spa resorts. As the island is rich in natural and cultural beauty it offers a myriad of outdoor activities for you to participate in on your honeymoon holiday from surfing lessons on windswept beaches to holistic treatments and early morning yoga sessions.

Honeymoon Planning – Preplan and stress less

Article by Kim Gillett

That special moment has happened. He (or she) has proposed, a wedding is planned and then the dreaded specter of the honeymoon appears. Specter? Is honeymoon planning so difficult that it becomes a stress factor?

Not if you do some honeymoon planning. Your honeymoon should be a time of relaxation, exploration and bonding. However, if you don’t plan your honeymoon correctly, it can be frustrating, time consuming and expensive. Honeymoon planning should not cause a divorce!

Here are some tips to make sure honeymoon planning goes smoothly.

Discuss with your fiancée your preferences for your honeymoon. Honeymoon planning is much simpler if you write down your preferences in order of location, budget, activities and amenities. Each person should create their own list then compare to find areas that overlap. Don’t assume you know what type of honeymoon your fiancée would choose. Have a candid discussion of budget, time off available from work and minimum requirements for lodgings. This is not the time to spring the no electricity, no frills beach retreat of your fantasies! At least, unless it’s fully discussed and agreed to before hand.

Then, talk with a travel agent. Travel agents will have great honeymoon planning insights and can help you make the best decisions based on you and your spouse’s vacation preferences including budget, location and amount of time. Because honeymoon planning trips are one of the few areas that travel agents still receive commissions, you can get the expertise of a specialist without paying a research fee. You could spend hours on the internet doing research, but why waste that time when an experienced travel agent can do your honeymoon planning for you?

Once you’ve met with a travel agent and know approximate costs, begin a honeymoon savings plan. Many travel agencies now offer honeymoon registries that will allow guests to pay a portion of your honeymoon cost in lieu of the traditional gift registry. There a few things you need to know before you do a honeymoon registry. One, the travel agent retains a small percentage of the donation as a fee for managing the program. You should shop around to find the agent that charges the lowest fee. Two, you are responsible for the cost of the honeymoon. If there are funds in your account, the travel agent will disperse them. If not, you will pay the full cost. So, don’t overspend when you do your honeymoon planning hoping/assuming that your registry account will pay for it.

When doing your honeymoon planning, prepay as much as possible. You’ll have incidental expenses like gratuities and souvenirs. These tend to be manageable expenses. However, if you neglect to budget for hotel taxes, spa treatments, or car rentals, you can easily outrun your budget onsite. Your honeymoon is not the place to eat fast food hamburgers in order to pay the hotel bill!
